Copper and aluminum bars are the backbones of modern electrical power distribution. Choosing between these two materials requires a balance of electrical specifications, weight constraints, budget, and environmental conditions.
Copper busbars offer the highest electrical conductivity and lowest thermal expansion, making them perfect for compact installations where maximum power must flow through tight spaces. They also resist galvanic corrosion better than aluminum when joined with other electrical connections.
On the other hand, aluminum busbars are much lighter and highly cost-effective. While aluminum has about 61% of copper's conductivity, an aluminum bar only requires half the weight of copper to carry the same electrical current, making it ideal for overhead lines and large switchboards.
